Laurence Jenkell is a self-taught contemporary French artist, born on December 31, 1965, in Bourges, France. She has established herself as a significant figure in the world of contemporary art, known for her vibrant and innovative sculptures that often explore themes of consumerism, culture, and identity. Jenkell's artistic breakthrough came with the development of her signature "wrapping twist technique," which she applied to create her iconic Candy sculptures. These larger-than-life sculptures, rendered in bright colors and varying sizes, are made from materials including bronze, plexiglass, aluminum, and marble. The Candy sculptures are more than mere representations of sweet treats; they are a language through which Jenkell communicates ideas of simplicity and universality, touching on themes that resonate across cultures.
